We're excited to share that SJB Outdoors is now designing and installing louvered pergolas across Florida. It's the product our customers have been asking about most, and after a year of installs in Naples and Fort Myers we're ready to make it a core part of what we do.
What a louvered pergola actually is
Think of it as a roof you control. The louvers — the slats overhead — rotate from fully open to fully closed:
- Open for full sun and airflow.
- Angled to cut glare while keeping the breeze.
- Closed to shed a sudden Florida downpour and keep the space dry.
Most of our systems are motorized and tie into a rain sensor, so the roof closes itself when the weather turns. Add integrated lighting and side screens and a patio becomes a true second living room you can use year-round.
Why we added it
For years we've focused on shades, shutters, and awnings — products that solve one problem really well. A louvered pergola does something different: it changes how much of the year you can actually use your outdoor space. In our climate, that's the difference between a patio that sits empty all summer and one that's the best room in the house.
The first question almost everyone asks is "does it really keep the rain out?" Closed, yes — the louvers overlap and channel water to a hidden gutter in the frame.
Built and backed locally
Same as everything else we do: we measure every project ourselves, install in-house, and stand behind it long after the crew leaves. No national-chain handoffs.
If you've been thinking about extending your patio season, take a look at the louvered pergola page or book a consultation and we'll come look at your space.
