About
Outdoor living, built for Destin.
The short answer
SJB Outdoor Living designs, measures, and installs louvered pergolas, exterior shades, exterior shutters, and retractable awnings for homes in Destin, Florida, and the surrounding Okaloosa County area. Every system is custom-fabricated to the opening and installed by our own crews, not subcontractors. Consultations in Destin are free and done in your home, with samples brought to you.
What makes Destin Destin — an Emerald Coast destination famous for its sugar-white sand and turquoise water — also makes it demanding on anything mounted outdoors. Brilliant Gulf sun, salt air, and strong coastal wind is the standard our exterior systems are specified against.
Across Crystal Beach, Kelly Plantation, Destin Harbor, and Holiday Isle and the wider Okaloosa County area, we handle design guidance, precise installation, and dependable follow-up service — one team, start to finish.

Louvered Pergolas in Destin, FL
We build these as a structural upgrade, not a shade accessory. Each pergola is engineered to the wind load for your Destin address, anchored accordingly, and finished in powder-coated aluminum that won't chalk or pit. The motorized louvers handle the day-to-day — shade on demand, closed roof when the weather turns — and integrated lighting, screens, and heat extend the season at both ends.
Exterior Shades in Destin, FL
Heat that never reaches the glass never has to be air-conditioned back out. That's the whole argument for exterior shades, and it shows up on Destin power bills in summer. Ours are heavy-duty zip-track systems with sealed edges, fade-resistant solar mesh, and motorization that integrates with the smart-home setup you already have.
Exterior Shutters in Destin, FL
Exterior shutters do two jobs at once on Destin homes: they change how the house reads from the street, and they give you something real to close when weather is coming. Bahama and colonial styles bring shade, privacy, and curb appeal; storm-rated systems lock down ahead of a named storm. Both are custom-fabricated from heavy-gauge, corrosion-resistant material and hung on weather-tested hardware.
Retractable Awnings in Destin, FL
Shade you can take back is worth more than shade you're stuck with — on a mild Destin evening you want the open sky, and in August you want cover by noon. A motorized retractable awning gives you both on a wall switch or a phone, and sun and wind sensors make the call for you when you're not home.

Common questions
Destin homeowners usually ask us this.
- Do you install louvered pergolas in Destin, FL?
- Yes. SJB Outdoor Living designs, permits, and installs motorized louvered pergolas throughout Destin and Okaloosa County, along with exterior shades, exterior shutters, and retractable awnings. Each structure is engineered for the wind load at your specific address and installed by our own crew.
- How long does installation take in Destin?
- On site, expect one day for shades and awnings and two to three days for a louvered pergola or a storm-rated shutter package. The longer part is before we arrive: custom fabrication plus Okaloosa County permit review where the system is structural.
- Are your products rated for coastal wind and salt air?
- Yes. Because Destin sits on the coast, we specify corrosion-resistant and marine-grade finishes as standard, and our louvered pergolas, hurricane screens, and storm shutters carry Florida Product Approval with documented design-pressure ratings. We confirm the required rating against the wind-load map for your address before quoting.
- Is the consultation really free, and do you charge for a quote in Destin?
- Both are free. We come to the home, measure the actual openings, bring samples, and leave you with a written quote. There is no charge and no obligation, and we cover Destin and the surrounding Okaloosa County area as part of our regular service route.
